Anthropic Claude Voice Mode Gets Smarter, App-Ready

Anthropic is gi ving Claude's voice capabilities a meaningful upgrade, allowing users to tap into its full model lineup — from the lightweight Haiku to the heavyweight Opus — while opening the door to productivity apps like Gmail and Slack. The update, announced July 23, 2026, arrives roughly two weeks after OpenAI refreshed ChatGPT's voice mode with new conversational models. But where OpenAI focused on making chats feel more natural, Anthropic is taking a different approach: making voice actually useful for getting work done. What Happened Anthropic's voice mode, which initially launched last year with only the Haiku model, now lets users select between Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku directly from the voice interface. The system defaults to whichever model you last used in text chat, using its fastest version for spoken interactions. The company has also expanded the mode's utility beyond simple conversation.
